I'm the quality and brand compliance manager at a mid-sized inspection and electrical services company. I review every measurement device before it goes on a truck—roughly 200 units a year. But it has a boundary. Pinless moisture meters measure relative moisture in the scan area, not exact percentage, and they depend on depth and material density. They can be confused by metal mesh or surface condensation. I don't have hard data on how often that happens in our sector; what I can say anecdotally is that the MO280 flagged the same wet zones as thermal imaging in our last 50 inspections.
That makes it a great screening tool. It does not make it a laboratory instrument. Use it to narrow down where to look, then confirm with a pin-type moisture meter or a sample when the decision matters. This worked for us, but we do water damage assessment, not forensic lab analysis. Your mileage may vary if you're grading lumber or doing litigation support.
